Built to play

With Jake McNeil, it’s all fun and games. At least, that’s what his Eagle Scout service project revolves around.
The 17-year-old Brandon High School graduate recently completed 92 and a half hours of work at the corner of Oakwood and Hadley roads, constructing a play area for local kids.
‘It took four months,? McNeil said, who received help from his family, friends, and fellow Troop 337 scouts during the laboring process. ‘It was really my step-dad and uncle who were there every time I needed them, though.?
McNeil received multiple donations from companies, as well as individuals, to complete his project, including a $450 donation of sand from Bedrock Express and a $3,500 play structure from Wojo’s Greenhouse.
‘I built a wall structure, filled it with sand, and built the play structure on that,? he said.
McNeil has been eyeing the title of Eagle Scout since he was a Tiger Cub at the age of 5.
‘By the time I got to boyscouts, I thought I might as well get my Eagle,? he recalled.
‘It shows character and I get a kind of respect from people.?
McNeil will showcase his character in the fall, when he attends Mott Community College.
