The Wolves ran, threw and jumped their way into the top ten at the Oakland County Championship at their home field last Friday.
The Clarkston Girls Varsity Track and Field team finished in second place with 46.5 points out of 34 teams.
Highlights for the girls included taking the top five places in seven events.
Senior Elizabeth Dalrymple finished in second place in the 800-meter run, 2:14.07. Dalrymple was also part of the 1,600-meter relay team that finished in second place as she, senior Allie Eriksen, sophomore Karlie Mattinson and junior Shae Harbaugh ran in the time of 4:02.64.
Sophomore Mattie Drennan took third place in the 3,200-meter run, 11:34.49. Sophomore Hannah Golab also finished in third place in pole vault, 10-06.
For fourth place, senior Grace Nolan finished in 5:09.38 in the 1,600-meter run; Harbaugh, 300-meter hurdles, 46.33; and sophomore Julia Hunt, pole vault, 9-06.
The 800-meter relay team of Eriksen, Harbaugh, Mattinson and junior Haley Puskar finished in fifth place, 1:47.38.
Sophomore Shannon Billette finished in 15th place in the 800-meter run. Senior Alysa Perez finished in 24th place in the discus, 87-08; and 26th place in the shot put, 29-1.50.
Oak Park finished as county championship with 107 points for first place. West Bloomfield finished in third, 38; Birmingham Seaholm, fourth, 33; Rochester Adams, fifth, 31; Lake Orion and Farmington, sixth, 30; White Lake Lakeland, eighth, 29; Stoney Creek, ninth, 23.5; and Troy, tenth, 22.
The boys team finished in sixth place with 35 points out of 34 teams.
Highlights for the boys included four runners taking the four spots in the top ten in the 1,600-meter run and two spots in the top ten in the 3,200-meter run.
Senior Shawn Slater led the pack in the 1,600-meter run taking third place with a finish at 4:23.11. Junior Brendan Favazza finished in fifth place, 4:24.65; senior Mark Sprague, eighth place, 4:26.31; and junior Nathan Sesti, ninth place, 4:28.21.
Sprague finished in third place in the 3,200-meter run, 9:42.79; and freshman Andrew Sesti finished in sixth place, 9:44.84.
For relay events, the team of Nathan Sesti, Favazza, Slater and Christian Collis finished in fifth place in the 3,200-meter relay, 8:00.34. The team of junior Devin Parkison, senior Alec Ryan, senior Matthew Baker and junior Matthew Miller finished in sixth place in the 800-meter relay, 1:32.63.
The team of Miller, Parkison, Baker and sophomore Drew Radlick finished in eighth in the 400-meter relay, 44.52.
Also in the track events, Collis and Nathan Sesti finished in the top 20 in the 800-meter run. Collis finished in eighth place, 1:59.19; and Sesti, 17th place, 2:05.21.
For field events; in shot put, Ben Haas finished in third place, 49-09; pole vault, sophomore Luke Grabowski, tenth, 11-06, and junior Miguel Gutierrez, 14th, 11-00.
Oak Park finished as county championship scoring 83 points for first place. Novi finished in second with 50 points, Walled Lake Northern, third, 44.5; Lake Orion, fourth, 44; Walled Lake Central, fifth, 37; Oxford, seventh, 32; Rochester Adams eighth, 28; Farmington, ninth, 27; and Waterford Kettering, tenth, 25.
The Wolves host the 34th Annual Oakland County Middle School track meet at Clarkston High School on Thursday, 1:45 – 9:30 p.m.
Clarkston sends athletes to compete in nine events at the MHSAA Track and Field State Finals on Saturday.
