CLARKSTON — The Clarkston Varsity Volleyball team defeated Brighton in their home opener last Friday.
The Wolves won the first set, 25-22. Brighton took the next two sets 25-23 and 24-21.
Clarkston evened the score in the fourth set, 25-15, before taking the tie-breaker, 15-10.
Clarkston opened the week at the Oxford Quad, Aug. 27. They won their first set against Lake Orion, 25-20. They were playing their second set when power went out twice due to the weather to end the night.
The Wolves opened the season going 3-0 in their first Power Series, Aug. 24.
They went 2-0 against Novi with 25-21 and 25-17 wins.
Sophomore Marlie Smith had 23 assists and six digs. Senior Addison Newblatt had 12 kills, sophomore Josie Seets had seven kills, and senior Isabelle Henry had six kills. Senior Skylar Alvrez had two aces. Senior Morgan Lozzi had nine digs and sophomore Maya Kuebler had six digs.
The Wolves won their two sets against Farmington, 25-14 and 25-18. Junior Addyson Lewis had 12 assists and five digs. Seets had eight kills and five digs. Kuebler had four kills and four digs. Senior Rylee Hunt had six kills and three blocks. Junior Amelia Flores had two aces.
The Wolves lost their first set against Brighton, 25-21, and went on to win the next two, 25-9 and 25-10, to take the win, 2-1. Smith had 21 assists, six digs, five kills and three aces. Newblatt had 18 kills, five digs and two aces. Lozzi had seven kills. Henry and Alvrez each had six kills. Flores had two aces.
The Wolves play in the Michigan Volleyball Classic in in the first-ever high school outdoor volleyball fundraiser supporting girls’ athletics and breast cancer research at the Rogel Cancer Center at the University of Michigan. The event includes 2023 MHSAA Final Four Division 1 Volleyball Finalists Clarkston, Farmington Hills Mercy, Forest Hills Northern and Northville at the Hawk in Farmington Hills.
