A 16-year-old boy from Auburn Hills led Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies on a wild ride on the morning of June 9, before crashing into a tree on East Clarkston Road.
According to an OCSD report, the boy was attempting to pick up his paycheck from the Burger King on Lapeer Road, after he ran away from the Crossroads for Youth campus in Oxford the previous evening. The Burger King manager called police.
When deputies arrived on the scene, the 16-year-old pulled out of the lot, heading northbound behind the strip mall towards Clarkston Road.
He continued his trek onto the unpaved part of Clarkston, even after the pursuing deputy turned on his lights and siren.
The responding deputy reported that the suspect, driving his girlfriend’s burgundy Pontiac Sunfire, was driving an estimated 50-60 miles an hour.
The deputy saw the suspect enter a curve at a speed too high to maintain control, and observed the vehicle leave the road and crash into a tree.
The car’s airbags deployed, and the suspect was transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he received some stitches.
Upon his release from the hospital, the suspect was transported to Children’s Village, and later charged with fleeing and eluding police.
