Drastically changing gears from their previous comedic production ‘Sylvia,? CVP bring the dramatic story of a woman’s struggle with her personal disability and the tyrannical rise of Nazi Germany before World War II.
Set in Brooklyn, New York, ‘Broken Glass? stars Joann Sellers as Sylvia Gellburg. The year is 1938, and Nazi are smashing the windows of Jewish stores in Germany. Gellburg suddenly and inexplicably become paralyzed from the waste down her doctor Harry Hyman (played by Dale Dobson) cannot figure out why.
Gellburg stays at home and reads newspapers telling her about what is going on over in Germany, and decides something must be done to stop the Nazis. However, neither Gellburg or her husband Phlip (played by Mel Case) understand the cause of her illness, and Gellburg does not know how she can stop something across the world when she cannot even control her own legs.
‘Broken Glass? is directed by CVP member Jan Cable, who said the group likes to present at least one award winning play every season.
‘It’s a very powerful play. It really makes people think,? Cable said. ‘Arthur Miller combines historical facts with fiction to tap into the frailty of being human.?
Performances of ‘Broken Glass? are scheduled for Mar. 10?12, 16?18 and 23?25.
Show times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $12 for Friday and Saturday performances and $10 for Thursday and Sunday.
