Deputies find girl, 2, wandering in Addison

A 2-year-old girl was found sitting on Rochester Rd.and Romeo Rd. in the pouring rain by three individuals driving by on July 16 at about 9:30 a.m.
According to the police report, the girl was unresponsive and was unable to tell the people where she lived. She was wearing pink and white pajamas and had minor abbraisions on the bottom of her legs.
The Addison Township Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the girl to Crittenton Hospital for evaluation. Photos were taken of the girl and deputies began going door-to-door in the Hidden Lakes Mobile Home Park to search for her parents.
According to the report, after about 45 minutes, deputies located the mother of the girl who was asleep and was unaware that her daughter was missing. The mother was transported to the hospital to be with her daughter and to be interviewed by the Family Independence Agency (FIA). Her daughter was returned to her mother afterwards.
During a follow-up interview, the 25-year-old single mother stated that her daughter sleeps in the same room as her and that the front door was broken and could’ve easly been pushed open.
Sgt. Pete Burkett of Addison said they ‘feel it was an isolated incident.? He also said the mother was very ‘shocked? and ‘couldn’t believe what was going on.?
According to the report, the mother doesn’t have government assistance and works full-time at an adult foster care company in Lake Orion. Burkett said she has been raising her child on her own and has refused any aid in the past.
Without the help of the individuals who found her, Burkett said the case might not have had a happy ending.
‘Thank God for the people who found her,? he said.
