It’s that time of the year again: time to shop for school clothes and supplies. But Gwen Koss wants residents to remember that it’s also time to donate them.
St. Anne’s Christian Services Commission will be accepting donationg of new or clean, gently used clothing that will fit children of all sizes, preschool through high school. They will also be accepting school supplies, from spiral notebooks to 1GB flash drives.
‘Children work on computers in school and they need a way to save their homework and take it home,? said Koss, Christian services coordinator at St. Anne Catholic Church in Ortonville. ‘Flash drives can be their way to do that.?
Donations can be placed in the gathering area near the food pantry basket at the church, 825 S. Ortonville Road, any time before Aug. 16.
‘There are more than 100 families in need,? Koss said, adding that backpacks are in highest demand.
Donations will help with back-to-school expenses for families who visit the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund (OCEF) food pantry and live within the Brandon School District boundaries.
‘We request all donations are placed in plastic bags, labeled with the gender and clothing size clearly identified on the outside of the bag,? said Koss.
Suggested school supplies include spiral notebooks, pocket folders, notebook paper, composition notebooks, scissors, markers, crayons, colored pencils, highlighteres, sticky notes, backpacks, pencils, pens, glue sticks, three-ring binders, rulers, pencil boxes, erasers, Kleenex, bleach wipes and 1 GB flash drives.
‘We are aware that the present economic situation continues to stretch everyone’s budget,? said Koss. ‘We remain hopeful we will be able to go on helping the families in our community and the families that visit the Emergency Food Pantry.?
