Fatty’s Pizza campaign a ‘home run? for team

Members of the Orion Chargers baseball team have a once in a lifetime opportunity this summer. The only problem is, they need to raise over $9,000 to make it happen.
The team of 12-year-olds has been selected to attend a tournament at Cooperstown, NY, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, July 22-29.
To go, the team will certainly need help in their fundraising efforts.
One area business has already stepped in to pinch-hit.
‘They were looking for sponsors to step in and help them raise the $9,000,? said Art Tingey, owner of Fatty’s Pizza on Baldwin Road. ‘I thought ‘wow, that’s going to be tough.??
Tingey thought that instead of just donating a small lump sum, he could run a fundraiser at the pizzeria.
As a result, he has flyers available at the restaurant, and when customers turn them in, ten percent of their sales will go to the team.
There is also an area inside the restaurant to make a pledge of the customer’s own.
‘We’re going to do all we can to help get these kids to Cooperstown,? said Tingey, who noted that the fundraiser will probably expand from a one month operation to a three month one.
Tingey’s children, Matt and Jessica are currently overseeing operations at the restaurant, and Art promises continued involvement with the Orion community.
