Goodrich-The school board was presented with five candidates for superintendent at a special meeting on Monday night.
Carl Hartman from the Michigan Association of School Boards provided the candidates to replace current Superintendent Larry Allen, 63, who announced his intention to step down last month.
Hartman said all candidates are currently employed superintendents and in good standing. The names of the five candidates will be made public at the March 23 regular school board meeting.
‘These candidates were selected and may not be seeking a new position,? said Michael Tripp, school board president. ‘But, like in business, when you want talented individuals you go out and find them.?
The decision to pre-select candidates for superintendent comes after Hartman suggested at the Feb. 23 meeting, that due to a sluggish economy a controlled search where a few selected candidates will be asked to apply for the district top spot would be in the best interest of the district.
‘There’s no external posting right now,? said Hartman. ‘It’s similar to head hunting? we will encourage a select few to apply. Goodrich is a unique district. Larry Allen and I know of a few with a good track record who are doing a good job in their districts right now.?
Tripp said the board will review the names and introduce the individuals during a public forum on April 4 at the high school.
Allen, a former superintendent for Mt. Morris Schools, took the post after then Superintendent Kim Hart was put on an administrative leave in July 2007. His contract expires in June.
