Bob Foreback knows how it feels to be honored. As the Goodrich varsity baseball coach for the last 16 years, he has coached his team to 456 wins with only 153 losses and 1 tie.
This year, however, he’s earned more than that. He was chosen to coach the West All-Star team in the M.H.S.B.C.A. 2010 All-Star Game on June 21 at Comerica Park.
‘Few coaches get this opportunity, so I’m grateful,? Foreback said.
Foreback is not only excited about the opportunity to coach, he’s excited about the opportunity to stand on Comerica Park grass.
‘I’ll be standing out on the third base line, on that pretty grass in my Goodrich uniform, representing,? the coach said.
The players chosen for the game come from the top 18 senior players in the west and east regions of the state. Only one Goodrich player has ever played in the All-Star game, and that was Michael McCormick in 2003.
‘This is as close as a high school coach gets to coaching a college team,? Foreback said. ‘I’m most excited to run the drills I do with my Goodrich guys and see the difference in talent.?
Foreback said his 9-year-old son, Max, will be his bat boy during the game.
‘I don’t think he really understands the importance of it, but it’ll be cool when we go to a game at Comerica and he can look down at the dugout and say he has been in there,? the coach said.
Foreback will be the head coach of the West coaching staff, but he will be working with coaches from Fenton, Leroy Pine River and Hudsonville Unity Christian high schools.
‘I’m not sure how they chose us, let alone why they chose me as head coach,? Foreback said. ‘It must be an honorary thing, but we plan on rotating the duties, so my assistant coaches will be doing pretty much the same thing I am.?
Foreback’s opponents on the East coaching staff will come from Carlton Airport, Hazel Park, Temperance Bedford and Allen Park Inner City Baptist.
