GHS netters contend for league crown

With the Genesee Area Conference Red Division tournament on the horizon, the Goodrich varsity volleyball team still has hopes of coming away with the division crown.
The Martians defeated Lake Fenton 25-5, 25-21, 25-19 in a Feb. 14 meet, improving to 14-14-2 overall and 9-2 in the GAC Red, good for second place in the division behind Byron (9-0).
The GAC Red Tournament is slated for Saturday, Feb. 18.
Tara Garman once again dominated inside for the Martians, amassing 22 kills, nine blocks, and 14 digs while going 31-of-34 in attacking. Alyssa Bertrand was 26-of-26 serving with 30 assists, 39-of-40 setting, six digs, and 10-12 attacking.
Julie Owen was 13-of-14 attacking and 11-of-11 passing with 27 digs, while Katie Birch was 25-of-26 attacking with five kills.
On Feb. 10, the Martians defeated Bentley 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.
Garman had 17 kills, 15 digs, and three aces for the Martians, while Bertrand was 67-of-72 seeting with 40 assists, while Owen was 22-of-27 attacking with 17 digs and 10 kills.
In between the two league matchups, the Martians went 0-3-1 at the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinal Classic Tournament Feb. 12. Goodrich lost to North Branch, Clarkston, and Lapeer East, while earning a split with Waterford Mott.
