The Clarkston Chiefs Cheer teams competed in their first competition on Sunday.
The JV Chief Cheer teams earned first place with the overall highest score in the competition. The Freshman Chief Cheer team finished in fifth and the Mascot team performed for exhibition at Oxford High School.
Each age group competes against other teams within the Northern Youth Football League from Lake Orion, Grand Blanc, Lapeer, Oxford, Utica-Shelby and Stoney Creek.
The Clarkston Chiefs Cheer program currently has 61 cheerleaders aged 4-11, divided into three different groups based on their age with 15 Mascots (ages 4-7-years-old), 24 Freshman (ages 7-9-years-old) and 22 JV (ages 9-11-years-old).
Clarkston Chiefs is a group of nearly 200 athletes, parents and volunteers who promote youth tackle football and cheerleading in Clarkston.
The cheerleaders support and cheer on the sideline each weekend for one of our six football teams. They also participate in two competitions this year.
These girls work hard by practicing four days a week and doing sideline cheer on the weekends. Parents, fans and the community would like to recognize them for their hard work, dedication and teamwork.
Chiefs Cheer thanks American Legion 377 and Cedar Lodge #60 FAM for supporting and opening their doors the week before since the weather didn’t cooperate for the outdoor practices.
The teams cheer on the football teams this week as Clarkston Chiefs White hosts Lapeer Green at Clarkston Junior High School on Saturday with Freshman at 11 a.m. and JV follows. Chiefs Blue play Grand Blanc Red at Grand Blanc High School on Saturday with Freshman at 3 p.m., varsity follows. Chiefs Gold hosts Lapeer Blue at Clarkston High School on Sunday with Freshman at 1 p.m., varsity follows.
