Fall is on its way. Soon, leaves will change colors, temperatures will drop, and footballs will fly every Friday night.
In preparation for the season, both Goodrich and Brandon varsity football teams are hitting the field.
Literally.
Goodrich Head Coach Tom Alward said he is excited for the season to get rolling.
‘There are going to be some coaching changes and we lost some valuable players, but the boys have been lifting all summer and getting together. I think we’ll go far,? said Alward.
Brandon’s varsity team is working on a comeback from last season’s 1-8 record. Tim Pizzala, Brandon’s new head coach, is hoping the team’s new faces will promote positive changes on the field.
‘We have a lot of young kids and new staff members,? said Pizzala. ‘With all the work the players have been putting into lifting weights, I’m hoping we’ll improve.?
Practices began on Aug. 6 for both teams. Alward said the heat is admittedly an issue.
‘It’s hard to practice in this heat, but we take numerous precautions and never restrict fluids,? said Alward. ‘We just have to use this time to be as ready as we can be for our first game.?
The first game of the season for both GHS and BHS will be Aug. 24. Goodrich will be away at Richmond High School. Brandon will travel to Linden High School.
‘At this point, we’re right on schedule,? said Alward. ‘But you never know what’s going to happen.?
