High school plans month-long emphasis on alcohol awareness

Alcohol Awareness Month is here, and Clarkston High School is working full force to bring students up to speed.
The Clarkston High School PTSA has designated February as Alcohol Awareness Month.
The school will offer many activities to educate parents and students on the dangers of alcohol consumption among adolescents.
The main activity is a Poster/Public Service Announcement contest open to all students. Judging will take place on Feb. 23 at the panel presentation.
On Feb. 23, the PTSA will sponsor a presentation from local experts on alcohol abuse. The panel includes: Judge Kelly Kostin; ENCARE; Clarkston 52-2 District Court; Diane Benson; several registered nurses; Cindy McCue; and a speaker from Be Responsible About Drinking B.R.A.D.
The presentation will discuss the law, myths and consequences of alcohol use. Senior students who attend will receive $2 off prom tickets and may receive extra credit in some classes.
On Feb. 25, juniors and seniors will attend an assembly by ENCARE (Emergency Nurses CARE).
The presentation demonstrates the seriousness of drinking by showing the students graphic photos and video clips of actual emergency room cases with young people.
The Clarkston High School PTSA urges the community to take advantage of these activities and the opportunity to educate the students on the dangers of alcohol consumption.
