It’s celebration time in Dragon Country with Homecoming

It’s all about the green and white as Dragon Country celebrates Homecoming this week.
While the high school is celebrating with a variety of activities for students throughout the week, community members can also take part in some fun on Friday.
The Homecoming Parade will be held in downtown Lake Orion, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
According to Leadership President senior Joe Graffeo, the parade will feature ‘everything Lake Orion has to offer.?
‘We’re trying to incorporate everyone,? he said, noting that many high school sports teams, local clubs and scout troops, preschools and school bands are marching in the parade.
Graffeo added that both state championship teams (girls golf and boys baseball) from last spring will also be participating, and their coaches will serve as grand marshals for the parade.
The parade will begin at Blanche Sims Elementary School to south of Florence Street to Flint Street, west on Flint to Broadway, and north of Broadway to the Ehman Center.
According to Graffeo, this is a fairly new parade route, used for the first time last year. Roads will be closed to traffic from 4-6:15 p.m.
At 5 p.m., Leadership will host a tailgate in front of the high school.
‘People from the community are more than welcome to come celebrate with us,? Graffeo said.
The tailgate will feature hotdogs, root beer, a DJ and pompoms for the first 200 attendees. According to Graffeo, the tailgate fun is a way to ‘spread the spirit.?
The Homecoming football game against Pontiac Northern will kick-off at 6:55 p.m. in Dragon Stadium. (Check The Review online for game day notes by Coach Chris Bell, located at www.lakeorionreview.com.)
During halftime, Homecoming festivities will contain with the presentation of the Homecoming court and the crowning of the king and queen. With the musical help of the Lake Orion High School Marching Band, the court representatives for the freshmen, sophomore and junior classes will be introduced, with the six senior couples following.
Last year’s king and queen, Ross Tonyan and Stephanie Miszewski, will then crown the new king and queen from this year’s senior class, bringing an end to community festivities.
According to Graffeo, Leadership appreciates all the donations they have received for this week and they hope everyone can join them in the Homecoming fun.
‘Everyone is welcome to come celebrate the Dragons with us,? he added.
In light of recent events, some modifications have occurred to the Homecoming festivities, according to Graffeo.
The junior vs. senior powder puff game, orginally scheduled for Thursday, will now be held next Tuesday (Oct. 9) at 7 p.m. at the high school football field.
Also, at the Homecoming football game, collections will be taken to benefit the Schrauger family in their time of need (see story in this web edition).
‘Please bring a few extra bucks and help support this family,? Graffeo added.
He noted that a table will most likely be set up for those interested in making a donation to The Joshua and Timothy Schrauger Family Fund.
There will also be students circulating and collecting donations.
