Lady Cats fall to Rochester

Oxford’s varsity girls basketball team’s inability to score cost them in a 32-28 loss against Rochester on Thursday, Jan. 19.
According to varsity coach Steve Emert, the girls were ‘very tentative? offensively. ‘We just didn’t attack the basket,? he said. ‘We were very sluggish offensively, and they played very good defense, but we still should have attacked the basket. We are an experienced club now, we should be going after it.?
‘We have to be aggressive…on both ends of the court, and not just on one end,? he added.
Emert did give credit to his girls for the defensive effort they put forth.
‘When you hold a team to 32 points, that is pretty good,? he said.
The Wildcats held Rochester to two points during the third quarter, but couldn’t capitalize offensively because they kept turning the ball over Emert said. Senior Michelle Gilmore and junior Miranda Murphy each had nine points to lead the Wildcats.
With the loss, Oxford slips to 5-7 overall, and 3-3 in the Oakland Activities Association White Division.
