Dear Editor,
In reading our local paper we came across the article “A time to remember” (by Kate Konczal, Independence Township Building Department, Page 26, Nov. 9). The picture in the article looked familiar and I suddenly realized it was a picture of the rear bumper of our car.
She was writing about Mom and I. The elegant lady she mentioned was Mom. Wow. We then looked her up and went to our township and introduced ourselves. What a delightful experience. She came from a long line of relatives, father, brothers, grandfathers who had all served with the Marines down through the years starting with World War II.
When she was driving to her job one day she was behind us and used her cell phone camera and snapped the pic of our car and decided to write this article for Veterans Day and then submitted it to the local paper.
Mom and I were so surprised. And what a lovely lady she was. We talked for a while and discussed my experiences. It was a great morning. McDonalds served free breakfast and then a deep dish pizza from Little Caesars, honoring vets for lunch.
We wanted to share this with you guys. It’s so nice to see the country supporting vets and the current members of the services, and we thank family and friends who have called and texted me.
Have a great day, one and all.
