Orion resident David M. Munro, 41, was taken into Lake Orion police custody after officers found a baggie of cocaine in his pickup truck and an illegal level of alcohol in his system, Sunday, Oct. 10.
‘Crack cocaine is not something to play with, especially while driving,? said Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narh, who noted the arrest was made because of good team work between patrol and reserve officers.
Around 1:40 a.m. that morning, Munro was driving with a friend on S. Broadway when officers noticed he didn’t have any headlights on. Police made a traffic stop and noticed a strong odor of intoxicants in the vehicle. Munro said he had not been drinking and claimed the smell was coming from his passenger, though he later admitted to having a few beers after failing a roadside sobriety test. According to the report, Munro’s blood alcohol level was .123 at the time of arrest.
While the patrol officer questioned Munro outside the vehicle, the reserve officer yelled, ‘We got drugs!? after spying a baggie of white powder on the floor of the vehicle near the passenger, a 44-year-old Lake Orion man.
The reserve officer pulled the passenger from the vehicle, patted him down and handcuffed him. Police took both men into custody.
At the station, both men denied any knowledge of the drugs in the truck.
Munro was cited for possession of crack cocaine, less than 25 grams, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He’s been released from Oakland County Jail after posting a $5,000 personal bond.
