Man hospitalized after township shooting

At 12:07 p.m., Sept. 4, Michigan State Police responded to a home in the 11000 block of County Line Road in Groveland Township. The 9-1-1 call was from a 61-year-old victim that alleged he had been shot by his 88-year-old father when he arrived to deliver food to him. Michigan State Police requested deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon Township substation to assist. Due to the nature of the call, deputies from Independence and Springfield townships also responded to the home.
Groveland Township EMS also responded to the home.
Steve McGee, township fire chief, said medical responders waited until state police secured the home prior to entering.
‘When we entered the home the son was sitting on the kitchen floor conscious and alert,? he said. ‘He apparently had been shot once in the abdomen by a .38 caliber handgun. Only one of three shots had hit him.?
The 61-year-old man was transported to Genesys Regional Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
