It was a rainy morning at Goodells County Park as Clarkston Everest Girls Cross Country competed in the New Balance Mid-Season Spectacular on Saturday.
The Mountaineers finished in fifth place in the small school varsity race with 126 points. The top four runners receiving medals for finishing in the top 30 were junior Alyse Felix in 18th place in the time of 22:34.6; senior Avery Herrgott, 24th, 22:58.3; junior Caroline Cross, 26th, 23:08.6; and sophomore Eve Herrgott, 27th, 23:11.3.
Freshman Olivia Leahy finished in 32nd place in the time of 23:45.5; junior Stephanie Suran, 34th, 24:00; and senior Celine Legg, 50th, 25:47.7 for the varsity race.
“I am very proud,” said Mary Williams, head coach, adding it was a very wet muddy course.
Everest had two runners medal in the JV race as the team finished sixth place with 129 points. Junior Jessie Burns, finishing in 24th place in the time of 26:09.8 and freshman Natalie Cross, 30th, 26:41.7, received medals.
The top five runners in the JV race also included junior Allison Tong in 38th place, 27:33.3; sophomore Erin Carr, 40th, 27:53.1; and senior Emily Callaghan, 51st, 29:08.7.
The Mountaineers were scheduled to compete in the Divine Child Invite on Belle Isle but it was cancelled due to weather.
They compete in the Catholic High School League All-Division Jamboree No. 2 this Thursday at Hudson Mills Metropark and host the CHSL Cardinal Division Jamboree No. 3 on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
Everest Boys Varsity Soccer had their first win over Shrine Catholic in program history last Thursday with a 2-1 victory. Mark Cross and Lucas Cross scored one goal each during the game.
The Mountaineers won their game over East China on Saturday, 4-1. Mark Cross had two goals. Lucas Cross and Tito Fortuny had one goal and two assists each.
They opened last week with a loss against Notre Dame Prep, Sept. 20, 1-0.
Everest Volleyball posted wins over University Liggett on Wednesday, Sept. 22, with both the JV and varsity teams winning their games. The varsity team won their game, 3-0 with 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16.
