Orion woman ‘hot rods? it to Cobo for Autorama

Orion Township resident Janice Piacentini grew up surrounded by classic cars.
Her father had a few Ford Model As, among other sweet rides.
‘It was hard to keep track because there were so many of them,? she said.
Piacentini now prefers cruising around in car by the same maker, but something with a little more power–a ?65 Ford Falcon.
She will drive the Falcon down into the heart of Motor City, where it will be on display at Cobo Hall March 6 to 9 at the annual Autorama.
‘I like cars you don’t see everyday,? she said. ‘They are more unique. I like the classic design. I think they are constructed a lot better than now.?
Piacentini is definitely rolling around Motown in a vehicle you don’t see everyday.
She’s had the dark blue Falcon for eight years. It’s got a Boss 302 engine, 30 over with a blower and four speeds. The car also boasts 500-plus horsepower.
For the uninitiated who don’t understand that last paragraph, the Autorama is the perfect place to go to learn car-speak.
For Jan and her husband, Dennis, who was once a car dealer and is a classic auto enthusiast himself, shows like Autorama are a great place to get together with friends.
‘We just want to go there with our friends and have a good time. It’s great because people get to see cars they don’t see everyday,? Jan Piacentini said. ‘We know people from all over.?
The Autorama runs Friday, March 6, from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $5 for children 6-12.
Kids under 5 are free.
