The Oxford High School Equestrian team had a successful finish to an award winning season – the riders came in fourth out of 19 teams at state competition.
“It was highly competitive and the kids worked very hard to be in the top percentage,” said coach Dee Shepherd. “And I’m very proud of them all.”
All of the 12 Oxford team members made at least one final division competition. The team had a combined score of 166 and was topped for the first three spots by Holland Christian in first with 324, Manchester in second with 224 and Dow High School in third with 169.
High points for the day went to junior Missy Brownrig with 79 points. She had firsts in saddle seat equitation and patterns. Also leading the way for Oxford was Ashley Peterson with 32 points, a first in saddle seat patterns and a third in bare back. Jeff Kovl assisted the team by pushing for a win in the over fences competition with two-thirds.
“I can’t say enough about this team,” said Shepherd. “They all did well.”
Congratulations to the riders and we’ll see them all next season!
