SMS teacher nominated for special award

Every year the Oakland County School Board Association sponsors the Betty Campion Distinguished Support Service Award. This year Clarkston nominated one of the brightest stars.
Anita Mann spends her days at Sashabaw Middle School as an instructional aide in the English as a Second Language department (ESL). She began her work about 10 years ago; and in that time, managed to leave many lasting impressions.
‘Anita is an outstanding teacher and mentor for her students,? said SMS Principal Linda Foran. ‘Her students trust her to provide a nurturing, learning environment in her classroom, yet she is relentless in monitoring their academic and personal development.?
Mann provides academic support for ESL students in sixth through eighth grade.She proves that going above and beyond is no simple task, yet manages to everyday. Mann is a prominent figure in many of the students lives. She is willing to work as long and hard as needed to assure her goals for the student’s are achieved.
Not only are her acts of kindness noticed within the school, but also within the Clarkston community. Mann is known for taking matters into her own hands. She has arranged for families to receive donations; assisted with legal matters, medical issues and housing; and served as a translator to many families in the area.
‘She is helpful and nice,? said Saula Espinoza, SMS student. ‘She helps me understand my homework and she explains things to us.?
