The strong wind brought in the cold, but Clarkston Varsity Softball heated up the field with two wins in their season opener against South Lyon East.
They won the first game with a solo walk-off home run from junior Hannah Cady in the bottom of the seventh inning. Teammates ran to the home plate after the ball sailed over the fence after being hit to center field. It closed the game, 6-5.
Junior Abbey Tolmie hit a triple in the bottom of the third inning and scored one run for the Wolves, putting them into lead, 1-0.
South Lyon tied the score at the top of the next inning but the tie didn’t last for long.
Cady opened the bottom of the fourth inning with a hit deep into the left side of the field, getting onto the bases.
Junior Sierra Kersten was next to bat and hit a double, bringing Cady home and the score up to 2-1.
Clarkston struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning as Cady, senior Anna Skvarce and junior Hannah Workman each brought in a run off their hits to close the inning, 5-1.
The Lions caught up in the top of the sixth inning with four runs before the Wolves defense shut them down.
Junior Abbey Barta pitched five innings with four innings. Tolmie pitched the last two innings.

The Wolves continued the night winning the second game, 13-12, and closed the game after five innings due to darkness.
They scored the winning run again by another walk-off, this one by Kersten in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kersten went 3-for-4 during the game, hit a homerun and had two RBIs.
Tolmie went 3-for-3, hit a homerun and had six RBIs. Her homerun brought in two runs to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth inning.
