In the Internet age, endless amounts of information can be found with a quick mouse click.
While Springfield Township residents have been chatting with cyberspace neighbors of foreign lands for some time, they now can reach township officials with similar ease with. This communication will be available due to creation of a township Web site.
Officially scheduled to launch July 1, Township Supervisor Collin Walls confirmed the Web site was up and running on June 23.
‘The Web site is an effort to improve our communication with residents. We encourage residents to use the new Web site and contact us with comments,? said Walls.
‘It’s something individual board members have talked about for awhile. The site was a project of Jamie Dubre, she started it after becoming a board member.?
Currently, the township Web site will be kept by a part-time staffer already employed for the cable services.
Walls said funding to pay for Web site maintenance will come from the Township’s general fund. He was unsure exactly how often the site will need to be updated, but said changes will be made as needed.
The Web site provides the following services:
? Direct e-mail access to Township officials and department heads.
? Department hours of operation.
? Access to the Township Master Plan, ordinances and Parks and Recreation.
? Absentee ballot information and application form.
? Assessing and Building Department forms and permit applications.
? Zoning, voting precinct and environmental maps.
? Fire Department information and burn permit applications.
? Printable registration form for Park and Recreation’s classes, programs and special events.
‘Linked access to other local, state and federal government agencies.
Officials also stressed that the web design firm incorporate Springfield Township’s image. Each page has the moniker ‘Come home to Springfield Township’the natural choice.?
The site also contains accessible links to employment opportunities, shopping, education, medical facilities and other services.
