Kickers used the opportunity against Bloomfield Hills to play the underclassmen last Thursday.
“The boys played well,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Soccer Head Coach Ian Jones. “We played quite a young team. We played a lot of underclassmen because it wasn’t a league game to see how they could do in the first game. All in all it was a good exercise.”
The Wolves lost 2-1 with the lone goal from freshman Richie Ludwig.
“We were missing players for various reasons,” Jones added. “It was a game either team could have won.”
The Wolves home opener against Troy Athens will be rescheduled. The boys played 90 seconds of the game before lightning was sighted and continued through the night. The team opened the season at a tournament at Notre Dame Prep where they posted a 5-0 win over the hosts and a 3-2 win over Dakota. They lost to DeLaSalle, 1-0.
“It was great,” said Jones. “We played three games in four hours. We won two and lost one in the last kick of the game. I am confident we can do well because the players in those games were quite strong. Dakota and DeLaSalle are good competition and always strong.”
He added he was optimistic the team will have a good season.
“We have a lot of talented young players,” Jones said. “We should do better than we did last year.”
The Wolves (2-2) opened the week against Troy. They head to Grand Blanc on Thursday.
“We are looking forward to it,” Jones said going into the games. “We’ve got all back except one player. Fingers crossed, no injuries.”
They lost to Troy, 1-0.
The Wolves host Groves, Thursday, Sept. 5. JV starts at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
