Students continue athletic careers

Ten Clarkston High School seniors shared their plans to continue their athletics after graduation as they signed their letters of intent, Nov. 7.
“It is a great day being an athletic director,” said Clarkston Athletics Director Jeff Kosin. “I love this day.”
He shared a phone conversation he had from a college coach and the coach said a perspective Clarkston student was a right fit for their school.

“It wasn’t because of what mom and dad said, not because of who they were but could tell they were a good kid,” Kosin said. “If they are making that distinction within five minutes, we are doing something right. Coaches come back. When you go, you open doors for other students.”
He said the success the students have had doesn’t happen over night. It took years of practice, hard work, getting to and from practice and games and to make sure to thank parents, coaches and everyone who helped get them to where they are today.
He added the athletes signing have a great mentality.
“When practice is over for them they are doing extra. It is that extra mentality that makes them successful,” Kosin said.
Congratulations Wolves for signing your letter of intent: Luke Baylis, tennis, Michigan State University; Hannah Cady, softball, Northwestern University; Sierra Kersten, softball, University of Michigan; Madison Mitchell, equestrian, Baylor University; Jordan Newblatt, volleyball, Marist College; Matthew Nicholson, basketball, Northwestern University; Frank Piana, tennis, Davenport University; Abbey Tolmie, softball, Central Michigan University; Haley VanBuskirk, swim and dive, Savannah College of Art and Design; and Hannah Workman, softball, Fairmont State University.
Clarkston Athletics will hold more signings in the winter and spring seasons.
