Hawk Tool and Pony Cycle celebrated the 75th anniversary of moving to Clarkston during the Independence Day parade on July 4. Photo provided.
After spending more than a year planning and preparing for this event and worried if I would get the 16 bikes, counted in the original 1955 photo, ALL turned out GREAT.
We had 22 bikes including a golf cart/1901 Olds replica and a real Pony bicycle, pit crew and candy passers. Yes, we had it all and it could not have been any better.
Of all the antique bikes, some as far away as the east coast, being started before the parade, my bike would not start. Helping all others start theirs when I looked up every one was working on my bike trying to start it. One too many tweaks I guess and I missed my own parade.
I would not have it any other way. Everyone had a good time and paid their respects to my family and my Grandpa could not have been more proud.
Slows BBQ catered and we planned for 75 and ended up with just a handful of leftovers, sadly, I only got a couple of sandwiches when all was through.
All and all, with the surprises of last minute family/friends showing up, and the meet & greet at our house the day before, I would not change a thing.
I’m very very happy with the whole event and would like to thank the Village of Clarkston for the warm welcome.
