Through great sacrafice comes much appreciation

Marines are brave souls that stand on the front line to protect the pride of the U.S. They are unselfish, leaving behind family and friends to stare danger in the face. What can be done to honor these heroic people?
Road Commission Chief Rudy Lozano and Chief of Police in Waterford John Dean decided to take matters into their own hands.
With the help of the Clarkston community, Lozano and Dean have coordinated the ‘Annual Marine Corps Family Night? in support of active duty marines and new recruits. To be held on April 8, the event is to honor the marines and their sacrifices.
‘After talking with John Dean, we realized no one is doing anything for these people,? said Lozano. ‘They are sacrificing their life for ours, so we decided to throw a party.?
The party will be housed at the Deer Lake Racquet Club, and about 220 guests are expected to attend. Lozano has been seeking support from local businesses to reach the $10,000 goal.
‘Not one business has said no to me,? said Lozano. ‘Everyone has been really supportive.?
Lozano hopes the word will get around and more people in other communities will coordinate the same type of event.
The big night will include local marines and their families. They will dine in a banquet area decorated in red, white and blue. Once the guest enjoy a buffet-style dinner, and family members say good night, the marines will join Lozano, Dean and other coordinators in the lounge area for a cocktail and toast in their honor.
The ‘Annual Marine Corps Family Night? goes from 6 ? 8 p.m at the Deer Lake Racquet Club, located at 6167 White Lake Road in Clarkston. For more information or to make a contribution, call Rudy Lozano at 248-763-9482.
