With warmer weather will soon come renewed growth by invasive species.
Not if Oakland Phragmites and Invasive Species Task Force(OPIS) has anything to say about it.
“Invasive species like phragmites lower property values and has negative effects on the environment and wildlife,” said OPIS President Linda Walsh Lapinski.
Phragmites, a reed like plant grows up to 15-feet tall with roots stretching 10 feet underground. Phragmites are an enormous problem because they pose a huge fire risk.
Wildlife also cannot take shelter or forage for food in an area full of phragmites.
Throughout the invasive species fight, the OPIS group has worked alongside groups Wild Ones, as well as City of the Village of Clarkston and Deer Lake Homeowners Association…..
