Bad news supposedly comes in pairs, but sometimes good news comes in multiples also.
The Clarkston Wolves girls swim team won its second consecutive Oakland Activities Association crown, this season as a division II program. The 2005 top spot came while the school played as a division III team.
The Wolves solidified its victory with a second-place finish at the OAA league meet at Lake Orion High School on Nov. 3. The finish, combined with its regular-season dual-meet points, gave the Wolves the title.
This season is the second consecutively in which the Wolves finished undefeated, 8-0.
Clarkston finished with 311 points behind the host Dragons (352) and ahead of Farmington Hills Harrison (290).
‘I felt they could have swam better,? Wolves coach Kenwyn Chock said.
The Wolves started out well, winning the first event, the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 1:54.15, between Christine Seiple, Molli Simpson, and Julia and Alyssa Vela.
Alyssa Vela took second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.66) and later won the 100-yard freestyle (53.38).
Seiple placed third in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.45) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.72).
Molli Simpson took third in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing at 1:12.18.
Diver Danielle Benway qualified for the state regional finals in diving with her third-place finish with a score of 308.10 at the OAA meet.
Some members of the swimming team will continue on to the state finals, held Nov. 17-18 at Oakland University. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Amanda and Kaitlyn Hassett, Seiple and Alyssa Vela, fourth place at the OAA meet, qualified for the state meet at a last-chance meet at Royal Oak High School on Nov. 6.
‘Our goal is to break top 10 in states,? Chock said.
The Wolves will face off against division I competition at the state finals, based on school population.
‘We’re up against the best and that’s a challenge, but we look forward to that.?
