Goodrich-The condition of the village dam will be uncertain until a state inspection.
That’s the word from Council President Ed York, who made the announcement at the village council meeting on Monday night.
‘We’ve got a hundred-year old dam that’s falling apart and we don’t know what the problem is,? York said.
At issue is what to do with the century-old structure, which will require an inspection by the Department of Environmental Quality.
‘Until then, the problem is uncertain.?
The council acknowledged options of dam repair or removal at their Monday night meeting.
Councilman Pete Morey said a rubber mix was applied to the dam’s west side last year to block the leak.
The problem moved to the east side.
‘Water will find its way,? Morey said.
Morey reminded the council of Atlas’s dam that was supported by a large tube in order to account for excess water not held by the structure.
‘There’s a big tube and there’s a dam in front of it,? York said. ‘The water level should stay at the level of the dam, but the tube allows excess water to go out.?
Councilmember Patricia Wartella said she wants a permanent solution.
‘We always put Band-Aids on things to make it work,? Wartella said.
York said he is looking for a long-term, permanent fix, but will not know what that will be until a state inspection.
