They are only elementary students today, but someday they will be doctors, teachers and engineers.
Students at Carpenter Elementary School and Blanche Sims recently explored some of the job options open to them in the future with Career Days at their schools.
The event at Carpenter, which organizers plan to make annual, involved fourth- and fifth-graders in five classrooms listening to five presenters representing the careers of: electrical engineer, chiropractor, firefighter, business person and advertising executive.
Students were given information about what each career entailed, including training needed and elements of the job. Presenters included hands on activities so the kids could get involved.
After the presentations, the students were to spend the next week working on career pathways, taking a survey and studying a career of their choice. The project is part of the Career Pathways curriculum at Lake Orion Schools.
At Blanche Sims, students in grades K-5 got a peek at possible careers. The students there heard from representatives of a variety of professions, including business, criminal justice and journalism.
