The Clarkston Varsity Hockey team closed the regular season with two wins and one loss before going against Oxford/Avondale on Thursday in first round of regional playoffs, 12 p.m.
“It’s always competitive,” said Karl Daiek, head coach, going into the post-season. “We are capable to play with anybody. For us, it’s sticking with structure and within the plan. Hopefully we will have a pretty solid mental approach going forward. We have all the ingredients.”
They defeated Birmingham Unified on Saturday in overtime, 3-2. Andrew Stewart and Charles Eppink scored one goal each during the game. Brandt Botterill had one assist. Jakob Harper had 19 saves.
The Wolves opened the week with a 5-1 win over Macomb Dakota, Feb. 17. Ketzler and Brendan Fredrick both had one goal and two assists. McGivern, Botterill and Galligan each scored a goal. Jamison Eppink, Charles Eppink, Cameron Thomas and Joseph Reiss had one assist each.
Harper had 21 saves and the Wolves made 26 shots on the net.
The Wolves (15-10) lost to Rochester United on Friday, 4-2.
Logan McGivern and Jamison Eppink had one goal each. McGivern, Joey Ketzler and Ryan Galligan had one assist each. Harper had 28 saves and Clarkston made 41 shots on the net.
The winner from Thursday’s regional game moves on to play Waterford Mott/Howell winner on Saturday, 5 p.m. The regional final is Wednesday, March 4. All games are at Kensington Valley Ice House in Brighton.

The Clarkston Girls Varsity Basketball posted a 60-42 win over Groves last Thursday and a 39-23 win over White Lake Lakeland, Feb. 17.
They opened the week against Bloomfield Hills on Tuesday. They host Royal Oak on Thursday in the last game of the regular season as they honor the senior Wolves. JV plays at 5 p.m., varsity follows.
The girls open playoffs in the MHSAA Division 1 Girls Basketball District 5 on Monday for the first round against Romeo at Waterford Kettering, 6:30 p.m.

The Clarkston Varsity Competitive Cheer team closed the winter season in the district meet at Brighton on Saturday. They scored a total of 671.98 points.
They scored 211.5 in the first round; 181.38, second round; and 279.1, third round.
Brighton, Hartland, Milford and White Lake Lakeland took the top four spots to continue onto regionals.
