Kickers dominated the field for the another week against their opponents – this time in OAA Red play against Avondale.
The Clarkston Boys Varsity Soccer team ended the game with 14:30 left in play after the scoreboard hit, 9-1.
“I couldn’t have been happier it was a really good result,” said Curtis Payment, head coach. “Avondale has really been competitive against some really good teams. After Southfield (Arts & Technology) we went back to practice and really focused on playing a lot quicker and one- and two-touch possession soccer.”
Senior Matt Heilman opened the first five minutes with two goals, both with an assist from sophomore Ethan Wise.
Next to score was senior Finn Eblenkamp from senior Brady Dickens. Dickens assisted on the fourth and last goal of the first half with a pass to Kinto, the Wolves exchange student from Japan.
“We just picked him up a few weeks ago and he scored his first goal,” said Payment, adding it was one of the exciting moments of the night.
The Yellow Jackets scored in the beginning of the second half. The Wolves answered with five more goals within span of five minutes with one from Heilman, one from senior Jacob Bore and three from junior Maclain Zaremba.
“Maclain has really been working hard,” said Payment. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he got more – he just broke the seal. He had a really good game. Brady also had three of the best assists you have ever seen. A really hard working kid who has vision and is unselfish.”
Another highlight for the week for the Wolves was hosting the Lake Orion Dragons and Rochester Knights for a Special Olympics Soccer game on Saturday.
“It went really well,” Payment said, adding it was well attended on the hot day and they raised over $800 to donate to the Special Olympics.
The Wolves opened the week on Tuesday against Berkley.
“We’ve got to do well against Berkley,” said Payment. “It’s going to be a good game. They have several really good players – their starting 11 are really good.”
He added they will need a good result with how the league is now set up – the lowest team in the league moves down a division. Stoney Creek, Berkley and Clarkston were tied with four points in the league on Monday while Rochester Adams and Rochester were on top of the league with ten points. Troy and Troy Athens were next with six points.
The Wolves next game is Oct. 3 at Stoney Creek. They head to Lake Orion on Oct. 5, then host Royal Oak the next day for Youth Soccer Night.
“It’s a good timing to slow down,” said Payment. “We can really focus on getting healthy, getting fit and cleaning some stuff up. We are also on the verge of getting some players back.”
The JV A Boys Soccer team also defeated Avondale with a 7-0 win.Drew Erskine scored two goals and had one assist. Kyle Roland had one goal and one assist while Colin Slunick had two goals and Nick Merritt had two assists.
