Wolves stand tough against Chargers

The Clarkston Wolves (13-6) have bounced back from losses all season long and its Nov. 7 contest versus Southfield Lathrup (5-14) was no different.
The Wolves won the game 40-34 and completed the second season sweep of Oakland Activities Association division I opponents, having defeated the Chargers on Oct. 12. Clarkston (7-5, OAA) also defeated Waterford Kettering in both league matches with the Captains this season, while splitting the remainder.
‘I thought Lathrup did a really nice job of switching defenses and they play hard and scrappy, and we struggled a little bit in the first half adjusting to those type of things,? Wolves coach Tim Wasilk said.
Captain Chelsea Kouri again paced the Wolves with 11 points while serving up five assists and Jessica Palace had 10 points. Samantha Carter added nine points for the Wolves.
Amber Avery led the Chargers with 10 points.
The teams played evenly in the first half, going to halftime with Clarkston in the lead, 17-16. The Wolves pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Lathrup 11-4, pulling to an eight-point lead at 28-20.
‘I thought we played really good, solid defense and then our shots started falling in the end of the first half and really got us up ahead of the game into the second half,? Wolves guard Jennifer Johnston said.
‘We had a great third quarter’we shot the ball better and executed a lot better in the second half and it really came together, and just held on and played tough in the fourth quarter,? Wasilk said.
‘They came back to tie it but we held on and had a good last two to three minutes of the game.?
Wasilk said his team was able to handle the Chargers? press defense efficiently.
‘We did a good job with it last night in clearing people out and bringing it up.?
