Shutouts mark softball season opener

Pitchers BaileeBraunreuther and Sarah Altene held their own on the mound as the varsity softball team started the season.
Each pitched one game against Davison and Holly and the end result was four winning games for Clarkston.
Braunreuther pitched for seven innings against Davison for her first shutout for the season as the girls won, 11-0.
She had three hits, two walks and six strikeouts in the first game.
Altene pitched for the second game as the girls won, 16-0.
It was her first no hitter of the season. She threw four strikeouts and two walks in the three innings the girls played.
‘We had two shutouts. That was cool,? said Coach Don Peters. ‘Our pitchers did a great job and Megan Hastings and Shauna Siwicki played well defensively.?
The leading hitters were Taylor Hasselbach and Braunreuther during the first game. She was 2 for 3 at the bat with one double, one triple and 4 RBIs.
‘Bailee was on fire during the second game hitting,? said Peters.
She went 3 for 3 at the bat with two doubles and 3 RBIS.
Jenna Jochum and Hasselbach led defense and held Davison down.
The girls headed to Holly on Friday and Braunreuther pitched her second shutout for the season.
‘A highlight for the first game was Bailee pitching ten strikeouts. She kept batters off guard,? said Peters.
In the 13-0 win, Braunreuther was 3 for 4 at the bat. She hit one double and had 3 RBIs.
Amanda Martin went 3 for 4 and had two RBIs.
‘Martin did a really nice job with hits and defense,? added Peters.
Altene took her turn on the mound during the second game. She pitched no earned runs, four hits, zero walks and six strikeouts in the girls, 12-1 win.
Hastings hit 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
For the four games, the top hitters of the week were Braunreuther, Hasselbach and Altene.
Braunreuther was 9 for 13 with four doubles and six RBIs, Hasselbach went 8 for 12, two doubles, one triple and five RBIs, and Altene 6 for 11 with three doubles and three RBIs.
The girls host their home opener against Troy-Athens on Wednesday. The double header begins at 4:30 p.m.
‘It will be a tough game,? said Peters. ‘The girls keep improving.
The girls head to the Farmington Mercy Invitational on Saturday.
‘The top four teams in Oakland County will be there. We will see good competition.?
