Oxford resident Lisa Brinker was simply devastated after she found her 80-year-old platinum and diamond heirloom wedding set not in its usual place – on her ring finger.
“I had been to a number of places throughout the afternoon,” she said. “I noticed the ring was missing later after the kids got home from school.”
Brinker said she lost her ring on Nov. 18 and began her search for the beloved set immediately. “That ring has a lot of sentimental value,” she explained.
By Wednesday, the Oxford woman had lost all hope of finding the family treasure. She explained that even her husband thought the ring was gone.
“I went back to the post office and checked there,” said Brinker, “and a patron in line behind me said ‘Forget about it, nobody’s going to return that.’ I really thought the ring was gone.”
However, an employee of the Oxford Post Office showed Brinker exactly what the holiday season means.
Carla Gregory, a building maintenance worker with the post office, found the ring late Tuesday night while cleaning the office. According to a supervisor at the post office, Gregory turned the ring into a clerk because she knew someone would be looking for something so nice.
Post office workers placed the ring in an envelope and worked to find its owner. The staff was finally able to contact Brinker around 10 a.m. on Nov. 20.
“I couldn’t believe I got it back, and after just a couple days,” said Brinker.
“I just think this was such a nice thing to do, especially with the holidays here and all,” she added. “I just really want to say thank you.”
