Oxford Meadows kids will have to walk to Clear Lake

While Clear Lake Elementary parents Lisa Baum and Linda Simlar were researching their concerns with the Oxford Woods walking area, the two women discovered what they found to be an interesting fact.
“There are homes in Oxford Meadows that were overlooked for this change,” said Simlar. “They could walk a straight way to (Clear Lake), and they are within the ? of a mile distance.”
The two women said they are questioning why this area was missed, especially when the district’s letter regarding the new walk areas states the goal is to be “equitable throughout the district.”
Assistant Superintendent Ron Franey stated that the transportation department has looked into the situation and found that the neighborhood was an oversight.
“We’ve generally measured the area and everybody should be in the walk zone,” he stated.
Franey also stated that nothing will be changed for this school year, but the area will not be receiving busing for the 2004-2005 year.
The district has not set any dates yet, but transitional meetings will be held and letters to the parents will be distributed before the new walk area is instituted.
