A night of companionship and friendship with fellow workers turned into a nightmare for a 21 year old.
Timothy Sorensen, 25, has been charged with raping a Lake Orion woman in June 2003 at a Village of Lake Orion apartment. Sorensen’s last known address was in Ortonville.
According to LO Police Chief Jerry Narsh, a group of employees from a local restaurant/bar left work together and decided to stop for a few drinks at another local bar.
‘After drinking, they returned to the apartment of one of the co-workers and had a few more drinks. Due to the alcohol consumption, they decided to stay the night,? Narsh said.
The people who stayed found a place to sleep wherever they could.
‘Two females and one male slept on a bed. All were fully clothed,? Narsh said. ‘Other people were on the floor.?
Allegedly, the victim woke up in the morning and found herself partially nude. The man in bed was also partially nude.
Narsh said the suspect was kicked out of the apartment and the woman was taken to a hospital. A rape kit was utilized. DNA evidence was recovered and sent to a state police lab for testing. A sample of DNA was also obtained from Sorensen. Testing indicated it was a match with the sample taken with the rape kit.
Sorensen was arraigned at Rochester’s 52/3rd District Court on March 15. He’s been formally charged with criminal sexual conduct (3rd degree) and if found guilty could receive a 15 year prison sentence and mandatory testing for AIDS and STD.
He’s currently at the Oakland County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.
‘This was a violation of trust. It would appear Sorensen took advantage of a friend. The level of sleep was affected by the use of alcohol,? Narsh said.
‘Be cautionary if you go out drinking and the level of alcohol you will consume, especially women, because of date rape drugs, although none was used here. And beware of ‘crashing? with the opposite sex.
‘The victim did nothing wrong. She should have been able to enjoy the night with friends, wake up and go on her way.?
Narsh added that LO Officer Rob Barker did an excellent job with the investigation and was able to assist the victim in many ways.
