A 4-year-old Oxford boy was struck by a car at the intersection of Mill and Stanton streets after riding his bike into the roadway from a nearby parking lot.
According to the police report, the youth was riding his bicycle eastbound on Stanton St. when he cut through the parking lot behind Oxford 7 Cinemas and entered the roadway to cross Mill St.
The report states that at the same time a 56-year-old Lake Orion man in a Dodge pick-up was making a left turn from Stanton onto northbound Mill St. The police account states the man ‘didn’t see the little boy riding his bicycle that came off Stanton behind the movie theater parking lot.?
Officers from the Lake Orion Police Department responded to the scene in mutual aid. At the time, Oxford police officers were dispatched to other locations and indisposed.
According to Oxford Fire Chief Jack Leroy, both the Oxford Fire Department and American Medical Response were on scene. He said the youth was treated on site by paramedics. Oxford Fire, in conjunction with AMR, then transported the youth to a nearby hospital.
The police report listed no citations. No update was available on the youth at the time of publication.
