Oxford Township residents can now purchase reflective address markers for their home or business through the Oxford Fireman’s Association.
The green and white markers are available as either vertical or horizontal signs, and are $15 each. They are highly visible day or night, have reflective material on both sides, are fade resistant and come with predrilled holes.
‘We’d like to get one on every house,? said Oxford firefighter Ron Jahlas. ‘What we’re finding is a lot of houses with unmarked addresses, and it’s really delaying our response times.?
Order forms for the signs can be picked up at the Oxford Fire Department Station One, or residents can call in an order Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Order forms can also be mailed into the station: Oxford Fireman’s Association, P.O. Box 911, Oxford, Mich., 48371.
The signs take about a week to make, but many can be made on the spot for those who stop in to place their orders. ‘We have all of the equipment on site to make them,? explained Jahlas. ‘We can get them done pretty quick.?
The Fireman’s Association encourages all residents to have their properties clearly marked in accordance with Oxford Township Ordinance No. 64 requiring the ‘correct numbering and proper identification of all buildings and premises within the township of Oxford, by means of posting street numbers.?
‘This is about safety for our residents,? concluded Jahlas. ‘There’s a big difference between knowing an address and finding the address. Sometimes those few minutes could be serious.?
