Artist’s small work wins big during OAC’s Portrait Show

Over 60 portraits by artists from across the state were featured in the Orion Art Center’s Michigan Portrait Show. But only one work had what it takes to be the people’s choice.
Don Oakley, of Oxford, who earned an honorable mention for ‘Crunch Time,? a small oil painting on linen, was also awarded the ‘People’s Choice Award.?
His work was easily the smallest entry in the show, and because of the size of the painting, Oakley created a specialized brush made of shredded bamboo to capture the delicate features of the models.
Though the unique show ran through the month of September at the OAC, art enthusiasts still have one more chance to catch ‘Crunch Time? and the other great portraits.
The exhibit is currently on display at the Orion Township Municipal Offices, located at 2525 Joslyn Road. The showing there runs through Nov. 8.
