Icers play strong, coach says

Although the Oxford varsity boys hockey team has suffered numerous losses over their season, Coach Dave Hague said the last month has shown much improvement.
On Saturday, the Icers took on Goodrich and ended the game with a 2-2 tie.
Oxford had goals from Adam McLoskey and Elliot Wicker, assists by Adam Fischer, Brian Simpson, Alex Ignanni and Peter Elezaj. Goalie Travis Collier had 20 saves for the evening.
Hague called the game one of the strongest of the year.
‘We consistently controlled the play, while out-shooting them 38-22,? he said. ‘Our puck movement has improved tremendously and it really showed in the game.?
Saturday’s tie came on the heels of a 3-1 loss Feb. 14 to Linden.
Even though the Icers out-shot the team 30-28, Oxford had a hard time burying the puck.
‘It was a tough loss, but encouraging seeing our boys play so well,? Hague said.
‘The last month has really shown just how much this team has improved as a whole, and individually,? he said. ‘It’s been enjoyable to watch these boys come together and put themselves in position to win every night.?
Although there were several one-goal losses in league play, the hockey team now stands 4-15-2 overall and 1-11 in the FML.
The Icers take on Swartz Creek Feb. 21 at the Troy Sports Center. Three senior players, Brian Simpson, Peter Elezaj and Cody Kovacic, will be honored for their achievements
