No, little ghouls and goblins aren’t going to overtake downtown Lake Orion on Thurdsay, Oct. 30, but it sure will look like it.
The Halloween parade is upon us. It will start at the newly dubbed Angel Center (formerly the Ehman Center) and children can show off their costumes all the way down Broadway to Children’s Park, where there will be even more festivities.
Those interested in marching are asked to gather at the Angel Center, located at Elizabeth and Lapeer roads, at 5:30 p.m.The parade will start at 6 p.m.
Jean Keitz, events coordinator for the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), said she was hoping for good weather.
‘This event is a huge draw,? she said. ‘It’s a great way to kick-off Halloween.?
Last year’s parade drew about 1,400 people, she said.
Former DDA Chairman Dick Hassberger will lead the parade in a fire truck and Sara Van Portfliet will once again be the witch in charge of the devilish good time. Police vehicles will also be on hand to lead the merry bands of children to the park.
Once there, parade-walkers will be treated with hot chocolate donated by sponsor Poppyseed Deli and Coffee. Walgreen’s, another sponsor, will also be there to snap photos, which are available for free at the drugstore afterward.
Keitz also wanted to thank the parade’s other sponsors, Ed’s Broadway Gift and Costume, Waste Management, T & C Federal Credit Union and Renewal by Anderson.
‘These kinds of events are what make a small town great,? she said.
