Intimations of immorality

The question of morality seems to be popping up in my Lake Orion travels.
At their July 6 meeting, the Orion Township board specifically stipulated that a dancing/entertainment permit issued to the Hamlin Pub not include, well, suggestive dancing.
Some of the language in the contract between twp. and Pub is straight out of Penthouse Letters.
This follows the opening of two business in the past few weeks: a pole dancing joint and a poker place, both on M-24.
Is Orion turning into a red light district?
Not really. The businesses–Wonder Women Pole Studio and Parrot Poker Club– are about health and helping. You see, the pole dancing is for exercise and poker is for charity.
As for the Hamlin Pub, they just wanted the permit for magicians and Halloween costume contests.
So, why can’t you just walk for exercise and have a bake sale for charity like the good old days?
While we’re at it, why not have pole dancing not for exercise and poker not for charity like the good old days?
Anything dubbed ‘immoral? piques our attention. We’re intrigued by bad behavior, some as practitioners and others as witnesses. It’s tied into the mysteries of how and why to conduct a life.
But, please, those who choose to only witness bad behavior, don’t turn judges. In Orion’s case, both of the places are using supposed lewd and immoral activities in a beneficial way.
Good.
I agree with many of the letters to the editor we received concerning the pole dancing studio. I doubt you’ll ever find me spinning around a pole to get fit, but, for those who think it’s a fun way to work-out, then do it.
As for the poker place, if people are going to be playing anyway, why not let local charities get a cut of the action.
At the same time, township officials are right to keep an eye on such things.
If they didn’t, the next place trying to open up shop might just feature stripping magicians running a dice game.
