There is nothing left of a bridge along the Polly Ann Trail besides its charred remains.
The bridge, north of Clarkston Road, off of Allendale, has been blocked off to trail users since a fire over the weekend. Officials are investigating the bridge fire as an arson.
According to Orion Township Fire Chief Jeff Key, a dispatch call came in around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15.
‘The decking of the bridge was heavily damaged,? Key said, adding that the main support structure may still be salvageable.
The fire investigation unit of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) is looking into the matter, Key said.
Supervisor Matt Gibb thinks it’s the work of teenage vandals. He said the estimated damage done to the bridge is around $50,000.
According to Gibb, there’s been a rash of vandalism in the township lately. Picnic tables have been burned at Stonegate Park, he cited as an example.
Gibb implores parents to watch over their children so more property doesn’t get damaged.
