It was the finish the Lady Wolves had set as their goal for the MHSAA Girls Golf State Finals at Forest Akers East – to be in the top ten.
They finished tying for seventh place with Brighton with a score of 678 after Friday and Saturday.
“It was totally awesome,” said Coach Lezlie Hallman. “They proved they wanted it. They tied for seventh place which is pretty awesome.”
Senior Meghan Deardorff finished in second place in the top individuals with a total of 145 with 74 on the first day and 71 on the second day.
“Meghan was totally fantastic,” Hallman said. “She was very pleased with her performance, as was the whole team.”
Claudia Sampson finished with a 172; Ashley Liles, 177; Zoe Puskar, 184; and Ilham Osman and Samantha Weber combined for a 197.
“They did phenomenal both days,” Hallman said.
The team loses Deardorff and Osman to graduation and Hallman said they leave behind a legacy of determination and drive.
“I am going to miss our seniors,” she added. “They were a big help in my first two years of coaching. These girls, what they did and what they accomplished was next to great. Just some very nice young ladies who had a goal. I am proud of the whole team.”
