Sashabaw Presbyterian Church, 5331 Maybee Road, hosts an open house and ice cream social, Saturday, June 23.
They’ll show off restoration work on the historic church by Clarkston Construction Technology students, and how it will be used as a community center once restoration is complete, said the Rev. Laura Sias-Lee.
“We envision a place where everyone is welcome. A place where holistic healers make people well, musicians practice and perform, creatives make and teach, entrepreneurs dream and develop, families celebrate, non-profits gather, and there is a place for everyone,” Sias-Lee said. “As a community space we are ‘Restoring Hope: Mind, Body and Spirit’ and supporting the well-being of all people.”
All are welcome to take a tour, enjoy ice cream from Cook’s Dairy, and listen to music. At 5 p.m., there will be a question-and-answers session about the building’s past, restoration, and future use.
“We will also recognize those who are making this restoration possible,” Sias-Lee said.
At 6 p.m., there will be an old-fashioned hymn singing, utilizing hymns from the era when the church was built, which was 1855.
Restoration work started last year. This Clarkston Schools program allows the school district to teach wiring, construction, math, and other skills.
