The 2018 Michigan Renaissance Festival opens this weekend with the Royal Pet and Ale Fest, as well as daily jousts and other merriment. Furry companions and their people are invited to learn more about pet nutrition, safety, clubs, fostering, and vendor products. Pets need to be registered. Also, Wiener Dog Races and Pet Costume Contest. The festival is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. weekends only through Sept. 30, Labor Day, and Sept. 28 at Holly Grove, 12600 Dixie Highway. File photo
